So, you're ready to bring your first ferret into your life. Or maybe your looking
for an addition to your crew. What are the advantages to adopting vs buying from the pet
store, or from and ad in the paper? The biggest one is this: the people running the shelter.
You won't often find the level of support, and often not the level of knowledge when you buy from
a private person or a pet shop. Store in particular are profit-driven, and while there are certainly
people who care about animals there, traditionally pet stores do tend to downplay the *dis*advantages
of ferret ownership.
We know our ferrets, we know their personalities and quirks, biters are worked with, medical issues are
known. Because of this we can match you with an individual or pair that best suits your lifestyle.
There are some requirements and considerations that we ask people to look over. We also reserve the right
to refuse adoptions. Not only is there the application but we'll talk to you over the phone before making
an appointment to visit. This helps us get to know you. We need to get to know you to be comfortable
adopting to you!
The shelter is run in private homes by volunteers. It is *very* important that when an appointment is arranged
that you keep it or let the person you will be visiting know as soon as you can that you can't make it. We're
always happy to find a new home for our fuzzies, but the appointments do take time out of all the other activities
including cage cleaning, playing with the other ferrets, out-of-house errands or activites with family, we put all
these things aside when we're expecting someone. So, it's appreciated to know if you can't make it or have changed
your mind. Also, it is for these reasons...that we are housed in private residences and taken care of by volunteers
that we don't do "walk ins" and may not be able to give you an appointment right away. We try and be flexible and
appreciate it when you are too.
Read considerations and requirements before filling out the adoption application.
We don't put up pictures and stories of ferrets that are available for adoption because we want to help you find the
best ferret for *you*, rather than have to tell you that the pretty little albino you saw on the page really *wouldn't*
fit with your lifestyle. We just think everyone is happier that way. We will, however, have pictures of ferrets that
have found new homes so you can see what waits for you!
Thank you for your interest, hope to hear from you soon!
