At the moment we are overflowing with ferrets, many are older ferrets with or without medical issues that are nearly impossible to adopt.
Please adopt older ferrets! They often
make better first-time ferrets for new ferret owners, and those of us who
already have ferrets know that our mature ferrets are rarely "mature"
acting! These kids need homes just as much as the babies, are just as
loving, and most will have many more years of bounce in them! The only
thing
"wrong" with them is their owners tired
of them or found they could no longer care for them for other
reasons.
Don't forget, ferrets bond
with those that they live with, humans, companion ferrets,
and even other pets. Most of our shelter
ferrets come in with a companion, or quickly
find one among the other shelter
ferrets. Being in a completely strange
environment...new house, new people, new
smells, sights and sounds, is very
stressful for most ferrets, this is why we
don't break up pairs/triplets. Please don't ask
to have friends separated, and please
don't turn away from considering adopting
pairs.
Many of our older ferrets with health
problems are also great pets for the right home.
They take more time, care, and attention,
and because of that we are even pickier
about the homes they go to. However, they
often are very rewarding friends...bonding
quickly with their new caretakers, and can
often have a year or more of happy bouncy
life. As a bonus, many are
paired with a healthy playmate.
